About CoRC

Three REACH Consortia have been established by the Board of the Cobalt Institute (CI) to implement REACH (Registration Evaluation Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) on behalf of the cobalt industry, with the purpose of preparing the registration dossiers for cobalt and cobalt compounds. A separate wholly-owned subsidiary of the CI called CoRC (Cobalt REACH Consortium Ltd.) acts as The Secretariat to the Consortia. Both the CI and CoRC are not-for-profit organisations.

The three cobalt REACH Consortia cover:

The list of cobalt substances covered by each consortia is outlined on the respective pages for each consortium.

CoRC have now completed the REACH registration of the many cobalt substances covered by the three consortia. Several of the substances (five cobalt salts) have been added onto the REACH Candidate list. Cobalt metal, and possibly other cobalt compounds (to be determined), are undergoing the parallel process for harmonised classification under CLP.

CoRC encourages wide membership and active participation in the consortia activities. Interested companies with several cobalt substances are invited to consider joining one or more of the consortia.

In addition to the full membership, there are other options available. For further information on these options, please see Data Sharing.

Interested industry stakeholders are also invited to participate in the advocacy activities.

Please also refer to the CI website for technical information about the health, safety and environmental aspects of cobalt and cobalt substances. The CI also cover topics related to responsible sourcing and sustainability of cobalt.

If you would like to know more about the requirements of REACH or the Cobalt REACH Consortia, please contact the Secretariat.
